[Sports and Recreation] Road Traffic Act 1994 - and relation to cycling events on open roads. At present a large amount of cycling events (competitive and leisure) take place on open roads with the use of Volunteer Marshals sometimes with the assistance of local Garda. At present the volunteers do not have legal authority to stop or interrupt the flow of traffic at junctions to allow the safe passage of cyclists. This is a regular practice across other open road activities in Ireland.

[Transport] Lobbying for the enactment of Minimum Passing Distance Law (MPDL) of a 1.5 metre safe overtaking space of bicycle riders. This would involve altering/enhancing our current overtaking law as set out in Section No.10 of SI No.182 of 1997. This would bring Ireland in line with 26 US states, 2 Canadian Provinces, 4 Australian states and territories, Portugal, France, Belgium etc.
